Give Kids a Smile

Local Pediatric Dentist to Provide Free Dental Care for Kids

Local dentists, Drs. Danny and Rose Ann Chiang, provide free preventive dental care to local children in need who can’t afford dental care. If necessary, they will make referrals for continuing treatment for children ages 12 and under as part of National Children’s Dental Health Month (CDHM).

The one day program, called Give Kids A Smile (GKAS), takes place early in the year annually.  It is part of the American Dental Association’s (ADA) annual push to bring attention to the number one childhood disease, tooth decay.

“Giving back to the community that has supported my practice is so important,” says Drs. Danny and Rose Ann. “This program, more than a decade old, will touch the lives of so many of New Jersey’s children who need oral healthcare and simply can not afford it. I am proud to be a part of it,” they said.

Children who come to My First Dentist during the one day program receive a comprehensive dental exam, oral healthcare instruction, cleaning, fluoride treatments, and free dental hygiene materials including toothbrushes, floss and toothpaste.

The last event day helped nearly 3,000 children visited 121 sites across the state of New Jersey alone, including private dental offices like Drs. Danny and Rose Ann.

Mission Trips

Growing up Dr.Rose Ann Chiang used to travel with her mother, who was a general dentist, on annual mission trips. They used to go to upper Egypt to a very poor town, Shneen, and help the community in many ways. This was something very special that her mom, Dr.Habib, looked forward to and prepared for many months prior.

Her and her mother’s services would range from teaching oral hygiene, donating many gifts, helping them read, aiding them with day to day tasks that were difficult for most locals in that town. Due to the fact that education is not well received in those areas and most people have to start working at a very young age in order to survive, the illiteracy rate is very high.  Dr. Rose Ann continues to honor her mom through her legacy.

Dr. Rose Ann had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a mission trip to Jamaica. She loved the experience of helping those who could not otherwise receive dental care. She learned a lot from that trip and gained a lot of exposure to dentistry in a short time.

There were lines of people gladly awaiting their turn for free dental care at all hours. Dr. Rose Ann always believes that she gains more from helping those who are less fortunate than they gain from her.  It is a very humbling experience.

Drs. Danny and Rose Ann love to go to local childcare facilities and teach kids the importance of oral hygiene while making it fun. My First Dentist continuously volunteer their time to teach children fun ways and songs to help make brushing fun. Some of the places they have taught at:

1. Kiddie Academy of Marlboro
2. My Gym Children’s Fitness Center of Manalapan
3. Calvary Christian School in Old Bridge

At My First Dentist we strongly believe in giving back to our community and the patients. Every year we are proud to be able to sponsor three of our patients organizations. This year patients that we have sponsored include:

1. Robertsville Elementary Boosterthon in Marlboro
2. Monmouth Gymnastics Tricky Tray
3. Raymond Voorhees Elementary School PTA in Old Bridge

Sponsorships for previous years have included

1. Foundation for Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools (MERS)
2. Old Bridge Cougars Football and Cheerleading
